چکیده

Oocyte and ovarian development, growth, and maturation have been described in many gonochoric fish: in the swordfish (Xiphias gladitus) by Arocha (2002), striped bass (Morone saxatilis) by Mylonas et al. (1997), carp (Cyprinus carpio) by Linhart et al. (1995), zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio) by Selman et al. (1993), pipefish (Syngnathus scovelli) by Begovac et al. (1988), red sea bream (Pagrus major) by Matsubara et al. (1988), Development of Ovarian Tissue and Female Germ Cells in the Protandrous Black Porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli (Perciformes, Sparidae) Mong-Fong Lee1, Jing-Duan Huang2, and Ching-Fong Chang1,* 1Department of Aquaculture, National Taiwan Ocean University, Keelung 202, Taiwan 2Institute of Marine Biology, National Taiwan Ocean University, Keelung 202, Taiwan

A microencapsulated analog of LH-RH accelerates maturation but without stimulating sex reversal in the protandrous black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli.

The objective of this study was to regulate the reproduction and levels of gonadal steroids in 3-year-old protandrous black porgy (Acanthopagrus schlegeli) by treatment with microencapsulated D-Trp6-luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LH-RH analog) during the prespawning season. Twenty-four previously male black porgy were equally divided into 2 groups and injected with vehicle (control grou...

Morphological Changes and Competence of Maturing Oocytes in the Protandrous Black Porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli

Wen-Shiun Yueh and Ching-Fong Chang (2000) Morphological changes and competence of maturing oocytes in the protandrous black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli. Zoological Studies 39(2): 114-122. The study objectives aimed to investigate the morphological changes of oocytes during final oocyte maturation and ovulation, and the maturational competence of oocytes to respond to maturation-inducing ste...

Morphological Development of Larvae and Juveniles of Acanthopagrus schlegeli

Newly hatched black porgy larvae (Acanthopagrus schlegeli) swam to the surface, with the mouth and anus still closed and were 1.90-2.11 mm (mean, 2.0 mm) in total length (TL). The larvae were 2.71-2.94 mm TL (mean, 2.82 mm) on day 2 after hatching. At this time, about two-thirds of the yolk was absorbed, the bladder and intestines had formed, and the mouth and anus were open. Total length was 4...

Robust gdf9 and bmp15 expression in the oocytes of ovotestes through the Figla-independent pathway in the hermaphroditic black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegelii

More than 1,500 fish species are hermaphroditic, but no hermaphroditic lineage appears to be evolutionarily ancient in fishes. Thus, whether more than one sex at a time was present during the evolutionary shift from gonochorism to hermaphroditism in fishes is an intriguing question. Ectopic oocytes were created in the ovotestes of protandrous black porgy via the withdrawal of estradiol (E2) adm...

Hematological and histological changes of black porgy Acanthopagrus schlegeli in ozonated recirculating systems

This study evaluated hemato-histological changes of black porgy in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) with three different ozone doses (no ozone, 20 g, and 40 g ozone/kg feed day). During the 44-day study, black porgy did not show significant behavior changes or mortalities in both the ozonated systems displaying average total residual oxidants concentrations of 0.12 and 0.25 mg/L. There w...
